Steal Like An Artist

Great short audiobook! I just finished the first one this Saturday morning, “Steal Like An Artist,” by Austin Kleon.

You get all 3 of these great books for the price of one. Highly recommend! Here’s a few of my favorite quotes from the book:

Write what you like. (Not what you know)

Be boring. It’s the only way to get work done.

Don’t wait until you know who you are.

It’s in the act that we figure out who we are. Make things- know thyself.

Write books you want to read.

(Me: Make videos you want to watch)

Start a Business you want to run.

Build products you want to use.

What did your heroes miss?

If all your favorite makers got together and collaborated, what would they make with you leading the crew? Go make that stuff.

Create your own world.

Artists need to be bored.

Enjoy your obscurity while it lasts. Use it.

Do good work & share it with people.

Don’t throw any of yourself away.

The more open you are about sharing your process, the closer people will feel to your work.

And finally:

“Be regular & orderly in your life, so you may be violent & original in your work.” -Gustavo Flaubert

Hope this helps!
